Occupy the Hutch: Complete!

Ever since I redid the hutch in our dining room I've rearranged and rearranged to find a mix of ornaments to complete the look I was going for and alas, I think I am done!

I bought the glasses up top a few weekends ago and as I was peeling their Made in France stickers, they easily came off without a struggle. Oh, the irony....

Memorial Day Weekend in Photos (So Far)

Happenings

No need for a search party! I'm still in existence. A lot has been going on with work. In May alone the following has occurred:

-Dedication ceremony of the new Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery at Birdeye.

-Following some budget and other issues, our agency director resigned. With this came a media firestorm.

-A new director was appointed.

-Memorial Day planning.

With all the stress and headaches that have come with event planning and the crisis, I would not want to be anywhere else. As we've been preparing for Memorial Day, I have been reminded of what is important: my job allows me to serve veterans and their families. Seeing veterans who've made sacrifices for this country and seeing the graves of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice puts everything into perspective. So this weekend, regardless of where you are, please remember why we celebrate Memorial Day. Thank a veteran or service member and even try to attend a Memorial Day ceremony or visit a veterans cemetery.

It's Good to be Tuckered

We're settling in tonight after enjoying the outdoors this afternoon and evening. After fishing Beau and I took Mamie to my in-laws' land that overlooks Hot Springs just to let her run around on acreage without a leash. It was so nice to just sit there alone together and just be. Well, just be with a wild dog chasing a grasshopper in the background.

We've been visiting churches and have finally found we love.  It is in a community within the town we live in called Sharon (why? I don't know). 

A few things you should know before you read my text conversation with Beau:

1. Yes, I typically ask him a million questions following every statement he makes.

Birdeye Trip

What kind of public affairs officer would I be if I didn't promote the new Arkansas State Veterans' Cemetery in the small Delta town of Birdeye?!

Seriously, it's gorgeous! I went for a visit this week and took a few pictures that I'm all too proud to share. The land is surrounded by gorgeous Oak Trees, wildflowers (and cows-they're outside the fenced cemetery.)

Another thing I love is the teeny restaurant that serves breakfast and lunch to all the local farmers. It used to be an old service station/post office. They have great burgers and plate lunches with hot water cornbread. It's amazing!

Every time I visit Birdeye, I'm reminded of why I love the South.
