Mamie Eisenhower: The Most Loved Mutt in the World

We're in love with our new addition, Ms. Mamie Eisenhower. Of course we call her Mamie for short. It all started on Friday when Mom and I went to the animal shelter. Beau and I had wanted a dog for months and decided we were ready for the plunge (since I cannot keep plants alive, why not?) When Mom and I rounded the corner to the kennels at the shelter this was the first face we saw:

Those bat ears got me. We looked at all the other dogs who were all adorable but Mamie was the one I kept going back to. By the way, her name was Hermoine at the shelter. Apparently it's a Harry Potter name. If anything she should be grateful I rescued her from that name. After asking a shelter volunteer a few questions I found out that Mamie was the dog who had been at the shelter the longest. She was dumped as a puppy and picked up with a sibling by animal control. Her sibling was adopted later but Mamie wasn't.

I didn't make up my mind that she was the one until after we left the shelter so I got her the next day. I'm glad to report that she was the perfect choice. She is a doll! She's nine months old so she is full of energy and loves to play. Mamie loves, loves, loves attention and we love, love, love to give it to her. She's a hugger and a kisser and her tail never stops wagging.

On Saturday we took her to our parents' houses. Here she is with the Thornton's' dog Rommel.

Our little backseat passenger.

Exhausted

We decided that she wouldn't be allowed on the furniture. Well this is what I found when I walked in the living room last night. Beau is clearly an enabler.

Mamie's first Sonic trip. Note the excitement.

I hope you like hearing about dogs because I will be talking about this one a lot!
